Javaid Gained Independence with an Artificial Leg

Javaid Masih's Story
For Javaid Masih, a 49-year-old man from Lahore, life took an unexpected and difficult turn due to high-risk diabetes. His condition led to an infection in his left leg, and after careful consideration, the doctor advised the amputation of his left leg above the knee. He underwent the amputation with a heavy heart. This left Javaid struggling with daily tasks and caused significant emotional and physical distress. The loss of his leg not only affected Javaid’s mobility but also impacted his ability to support his family. His doctor recommended a left-above-knee prosthesis to help him regain independence and mobility. However, the cost of the prosthesis was far beyond his financial means.
Javaid lived in a modest two-room rented house with his wife and three daughters. The family’s primary source of income came from Javaid’s job as a sweeper, where he earned PKR 35,000 per month. Despite his hard work, this income was barely enough to cover their living expenses, leaving little to no room for an artificial limb. In his search for a solution, Javaid reached out to Transparent Hands for help. After reviewing his case, we swiftly registered his case.
On October 19, 2024, Javaid received his much-needed prosthesis at Hope Rehabilitation Center in Lahore. The procedure was performed under the supervision of Dr. Khalid Niaz. The fitting of the prosthesis marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, giving him the chance to walk and regain his independence.
Javaid expressed his gratitude with a heart full of appreciation as follows:
“I never thought I would be able to walk again. This prosthesis has given me hope and a chance to stand on my own feet again. Thank you for giving me my life back.”
Today, Javaid is moving forward with new strength, knowing that he can now support his family and face the challenges ahead with confidence. Javaid’s family extends their deepest gratitude to you for stepping forward during their time of need. You made a valuable impact on Javaid’s life.
