Idrees Regained Mobility with a New Prosthesis

Idrees Regained Mobility with a New Prosthesis

Muhammad Idress's Story

Muhammad Idress, a 51-year-old resident of Kasur, suffered from high-risk diabetes and a severe infection in his right foot. Due to his condition, he faced a life-altering challenge when he had to undergo a below-knee amputation. The news of losing his leg was devastating, filling him with anxiety and fear about his future. After the amputation, Idress struggled to perform daily activities, relying heavily on others for even basic tasks. The prosthesis he initially received eventually wore out and needed replacement. Therefore, his doctor recommended a new below-knee prosthesis to restore his mobility. Unfortunately, the cost of a new prosthesis was far beyond Idress’ financial capacity.

Idress lived in a small house with his wife and six children. He was the sole provider for his family, and worked as an Imam at a mosque, earning just PKR 15,000 per month. They struggled to cover their utility bills, school fees, and other essential expenses. The financial burden left no room for him to afford the prosthetic leg that would allow him to regain his independence. During this difficult time, Idress reached out to Transparent Hands for support. Moved by his story, we registered his case and arranged for him to receive a new below-knee prosthesis.

On December 20, 2024, Idress was fitted with a below-knee prosthesis at Hope Rehabilitation Centre in Lahore. This procedure was performed under the supervision of Dr. Khalid Niaz. When Idress stood and took his first steps with his new leg, he felt a renewed sense of hope and independence.

Expressing his gratitude, Idress shared:

“Life felt like a constant struggle after my amputation, but this prosthesis has given me a second chance. I am incredibly thankful to you for making this possible. You have changed my life.”

Idress is now adapting to his new prosthesis and looks forward to resuming his daily activities without relying on others. His family is overjoyed to see him regain his confidence and mobility. His family extends deepest gratitude to you for your kind support. Idress’ life has taken a positive turn, bringing hope and stability back to his family.
