Giving in Muharram is the perfect way to begin the New Islamic Year. Muharram, especially the 9th and 10th (Day of Ashura) of this sacred month, is an ideal time to support our Muslim brothers and sisters who are suffering due to deadly diseases. Prayers of poor patients and countless blessings await those of us who are willing to donate a small part of our wealth.
Not only is Muharram the first month in the Islamic lunar calendar, but it’s also one of the four sacred months in Islam. Several events with great religious and historical significance took place in this month.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Time has come back to its original state which it had when Allah created the Heavens and the Earth; the year is twelve months, four of which are sacred. Three of them are in succession; Dhul-Qa’da, Dhul-Hijja and Al-Muharram, and (the fourth being) Rajab Mudar (named after the tribe of Mudar as they used to respect this month) which stands between Jumad (ath-thani) and Sha’ban.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 4662)
Muharram is the first month in the Islamic lunar calendar. The exact date of the first day of Muharram 2024 depends on the sighting of the moon, but it is expected to start on July 7, 2024.
Depending on the sighting of the moon, the 9th and 10th day of Muharram 2024 are expected on July 16 and July 17, 2024, in the Gregorian calendar.
